To help support students during the extraordinary time of the COVID-19 pandemic, UWIN is launching one final call for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate fellows, for work to be performed during the summer of 2020. Applications are due by Wednesday, May 20, 2020, 11:59pm PT.

UWIN’s Washington Research Foundation (WRF) Innovation Undergraduate and Post-baccalaureate Fellowships in Neuroengineering provide support for undergraduate students and recently graduated individuals whose research relates to both neuroscience and quantitative approaches in math, computer science, or engineering. Undergraduate students (either from the UW or from another institution) or recently graduated individuals who have committed to doing research in the laboratory of one of the participating faculty members are welcome to apply for a fellowship. Co-mentoring between experimental and theoretical or engineering groups is encouraged.  If a postdoctoral fellow will be the primary advisor, letters of support should come both from the postdoctoral fellow and the faculty mentor.

These fellowships provide $6000 in hourly pay, plus the associated cost of benefits.

Faculty, please note that per UW guidelines you will be required to get approval in your home department for any new student or post-baccalaurate hires. As part of the application, you will be asked to describe how the research can be done in a way that respects social distancing and potential future isolation requirements (e.g. capacity to work remotely, theory, data analysis), as well as how your mentoring plan will adapt to remote work.

Applications are evaluated on:

  1. Fit to mission of UWIN,
  2. Academic record and candidate qualifications,
  3. Mentoring plan,
  4. Fellowship’s benefit to candidate, especially within the context of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic,
  5. Proposed research, and
  6. Letter of support from advisor.  If a postdoctoral fellow will be the primary advisor, letters of support should come both from the postdoctoral fellow and the faculty mentor.
